Guide
Three numbers and one multiplication.
| Site | Average load | Hours | Energy needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home essentials | 0.5 kW | 12 | About 7.5 kWh (GridGO) |
| Small office | 1.5 kW | 8 | About 15 kWh (Mini PulseTrek) |
| Clinic with cold chain | 2 kW | 12 | About 30 kWh (Base+) |
| Storm command post | 4 kW | 24 | Hybrid or several units |
Add solar or a small generator on a slow charge schedule. See battery backup power.
Typical running figures help with a first estimate. A modern fridge averages roughly 100 to 200 W across its cycle, a Wi-Fi router about 10 W, an LED light 5 to 15 W, a laptop around 50 W, a TV 100 W, and a small office printer at rest very little. A sump pump, well pump or window AC unit can draw 500 W to 1.5 kW while running and much more at start-up.
Check the label or manual for each item, or measure with a plug-in meter. Real measurements beat estimates, especially for anything with a motor.
Then add 20 to 25 percent margin for inefficiency, the state-of-charge cutoff and surprises.
Questions answered
For essentials only, roughly 5 to 10 kWh per night; whole-home backup with AC needs much more.
Usable energy divided by load: about 12 hours at 1 kW.
Check the rating label, or use a plug-in energy meter for a day to capture real consumption.
