Guide
Megawatt-hours of storage serving the network or a very large site.
Grid-scale storage is measured in megawatts and megawatt-hours. It serves the electricity network or a site large enough to behave like part of it: utilities, data centres, EV charging hubs and industrial campuses. US utilities are adding storage at record pace, and interconnection queues for new large loads are long.
Leberi containers hold 3.3 to 8.3 MWh each and can be combined for larger projects, at 1,331.2 V DC nominal with liquid cooling.
Grid-scale storage is described by two numbers: power in megawatts, which sets how fast it can deliver, and energy in megawatt-hours, which sets for how long. A system described as 2 MW / 4 MWh can deliver 2 MW for about two hours.
Leberi containers are rated for 0.5C charge and discharge. An 8.3 MWh container can therefore deliver roughly 4 MW for about two hours; several containers combine for larger projects.
The use case sets the ratio. Frequency and fast response need high power for short durations. Shifting solar into the evening peak needs longer duration. Bridging a new large load until its grid connection arrives needs enough energy to cover the gap between generation and demand.
Questions answered
Battery storage measured in MW and MWh that serves the grid or a very large site.
From a few MWh in one container to hundreds of MWh across many.
MW is how fast energy can be delivered; MWh is how much is stored. A 4 MW / 8 MWh system runs at full power for about two hours.
