Guide
Rental quotes vary more than they should, mostly because they include different things. Here is what moves the number and what to check.
System size. Both energy and power. A 30 kWh unit rated for 8,000 W continuous rents for more than a 15 kWh unit rated for 2,400 W, because it is a more capable machine, not just a larger one.
Hire length. Longer hires price lower per week. A project-length arrangement over several months is materially cheaper per week than a ten-day event hire, because mobilisation is amortised.
Logistics. Delivery distance, positioning requirements and collection. Ask whether these are in the rate or quoted separately — this is the single most common reason two quotes are not comparable.
Options. Solar upgrade kits, stadium lighting kits and security camera kits each add to the rate and each replace something you would otherwise hire separately.
Support level. Remote monitoring, pack swap arrangements and response commitments. On long or critical deployments this is worth more than a small difference in weekly rate.
This is the structural difference from generator hire. A generator quote is a hire rate, and then you add fuel, delivery of that fuel, the labour to refuel, servicing during the hire, and any spill or noise compliance the site requires. Those lines can exceed the hire rate itself on a long deployment.
A battery rental quote has no fuel line. If delivery, monitoring and support are included, the quoted rate is close to your total running cost — which makes budgeting considerably easier and makes the comparison against a generator quote unfair in the generator's favour unless you build in its fuel and labour.
Send three things: what is on site and roughly when it runs, the dates, and the site location. That is enough for a firm figure. If you also have a kW peak and a daily kWh total, the quote comes back faster and tighter.
See BESS rental for what is included as standard, or the full rental guide for the questions worth asking.
Questions answered
It depends on system size, hire length, logistics, options and support level. Longer hires price lower per week. Because there is no fuel line, the quoted rate is close to your total running cost.
The hire rate is usually higher; the total cost is often lower, because a generator quote excludes fuel, refuelling labour, servicing and compliance. Compare totals, not hire rates.
What is on site and when it runs, the dates and the location. A kW peak and daily kWh total make the quote faster and more precise.
